In today’s society there are many different people in the world. There are people that work long hours and are barely making it with their jobs. Then there are people who are lazy and sit around at home all day. The similarities between the two kinds of people are that they are always going to be money hungry. In the movie No Country for Old Men Llewelyn Moss comes across a man, who happens to be dead underneath a tree, and takes the suitcase full of money. It’s not only Moss after the money, but a very deadly man named Chigurh. I will be comparing No Country for Old Men and how the world is today. Everything revolves around money and the crazy things that people will do for it. When it comes to money and spiteful people nothing good is the outcome.
Llewelyn Moss isn’t an average person you would come across any given day. Moss, who is a retired welder, likes to hunt in the open desert like fields in West Texas. On this day while he was out hunting a pack of antelope repeating “You hold still”, before he pulled the trigger to his long rifle. The bullet just injured the antelope and scared the rest of the pack. Moss followed the blood trail hoping to find the injured antelope, but instead he comes across an injured dog that also has been shot. Moss look both at the dog and the blood trail it had left, and that’s when he followed the blood. He walked by a few people and a dog that were shot and killed. He came across a man who was sitting in one of the trucks who happened to be the only one that survived the shoot out. He didn’t bother talking to the man very long. He went and looked at the back of the truck and seen that there was drugs, so he figured if there is drugs there should be money. Eventually he found the man with the money, dead under a tree; Moss unloaded the pistol put it in his pants, picked up the satchel of money, and took off like nothing ever happened.
Chigurh is a very rational and peculiar guy who enjoys killing innocent people and hunting down anything and everything that he needs. While watching No Country for Old Men Chigurh really caught my eye with his awkward style. He wears a denim blue jean jacket and jeans, with his weapon of choice a captive bolt pistol, which is usually used to slaughter cattle. Once he kills his first two victims and steals a few cars that’s when he goes to the desert where the shoot out happened. He wasn’t alone he had went with two men that worked with him. He eventually gets the tracker to track the satchel and shoots the men. Now he could care less about anybody else all he wants is Moss and the money. By the time arrived to Moss’s trailer park Moss and his wife had already left.
Two young men had the life that everybody would want. They had parents that were wealthy and would get them anything and everything they wanted. Erik and Lyle Menendez had the life that anybody would want basically. They lived in a mansion had all the fancy things that people would dream to have. Well to them that wasn’t good enough. They both felt like they weren’t good enough to there father no matter how hard that they tried. That’s when they made a plan to kill both there mother and father to inherit the money that Mr. Menendez had in savings accounts. All the boys cared about was their parent’s money and they thought that their plan was going to work.
On the night of August 20, 1989, nobody was home, but Mr. and Mrs. Menendez. They had given the maid off for the night that way they could have quality time together. Little did they know that this could possibly be the last time they will sit on the couch and watch movies together? Maybe around 10 pm two men were spotted by a teenage girl who was outside waiting for her boyfriend. She eventually went inside and that’s when the car parked in front of the Menendez house. Some reason that night the front gates were open and the security system was off. The men took advantage of that and that’s when they broke in and went to the family room. There is when they shot Mr. Menendez first on his arms to keep him from running off. The shot that killed him was the blow to the head. That’s when Mrs. Menendez woke up and tried to run, but it was to late for that they shot her several times. Just like Mr. Menendez, his wife died from a blow to the head. Before both men left the crime scene they picked up all the shell casings, so that the police wouldn’t identify the guns.
A few days after the murder, both Lyle and Erik, went on a mass shopping spree buying things like nothing ever happened. They bought brand new cars, name brand clothes, and spent $15,000 each on Rolex watches. Eventually they went to a studio that his father had ties too asking about the insurance policy that they owed them, since his father is now deceased. Unfortunately Mr. Menendez didn’t do the physical exam that was required, so they couldn’t get the money. Lyle and Erik were expecting to inherit ninety million dollars, but instead they only got two million. The boys told people that they did not want to go back to their house because they were afraid that the men that murdered their parents were going to come back and get them.
The police never suspected Erik and Lyle until after and interview with a family friend.  One of the detectives had asked what their first impressions about the case were. Mr. Wiere replied “I have no basis for this, but I wonder if the boys did it.” After this interview that is when the officers started really looking at Erik and Lyle as suspects. They looked at all the money that they blew right after their parents were murdered. The police interviewed Erik first, he didn’t tell them anything, but as soon as the police left he had called Lyle. A few days later Erik had gone to go see a therapist and that’s where he told the therapists everything. Lyle was furious that he would tell somebody that they committed the murder. Eventually word got back to the police that the brothers had killed there parents.
Llewelyn went from hotel to hotel to stay away from Chigurh in order to keep the money. Little did he know that the money had a tracking device attached to the money, and when Moss discovered it he knew it was already too late. He called downstairs to the clerk at the desk and when he didn’t answer he knew that Chigurh was already there. They ended up shooting and missing each other. Moss ended up in the hospital while Chigurh blew up a car and robbed a pharmacy to get medical supplies. A few days later after Moss escaped the hospital he was planning on meeting up with his wife, Carla Jean, but before she even got there he was murdered by a Mexican gang. Time had passed before Chigurh was hit by a car that ran a red light after that he was never seen again.
Erik and Lyle Menendez thought their perfect plan to kill their parents would work out just great. They didn’t think that they eventually were going to get caught years later. If Erik never told his therapist that his brother and him killed their parents they would have never got convicted, and than inherit all the money that their parents had saved. Both Erik and Lyle Menendez were convicted of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
As you have read, all four of these men were willing to do anything, including killing innocent people, just to get the money they felt like they deserved. In the end nobody received the money. Moss was murdered, Chigurh was never seen after his car accident, the Menendez brothers were convicted of murder, will spend the rest of their lives in prison, and never received a dime from their parent’s inheritance. Money is the root of all evil people will do crazy things just to get what they want not realizing what the consequences are.
The reason I compared No Country for Old Men and the Menendez brother’s, because all they cared about was how they were going to get the money, or how they were going to spend it. They figured killing was the easy way to get it, and that’s what they did. This is what I mean about today’s society that people will do any little thing just to get what they want. These spiteful people that think that money will give the power to do what they want and ease their trouble minds are very wrong. It’s the wrong thing to do, and shouldn’t be done. Money will never get you very far it may buy people all the nice things but that also doesn’t value the lives that people are willing to end.
